3 Calls for Democracy with BVA
November 13 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Tuesday’s election was a turning point for voting rights. This is true in how voters elected to expand voting rights for millions of people across the country, in the aggressive voter suppression tactics across multiple states, and in the too-close-to-call races still being decided. And in many places, including in New York City, there was a breakdown of our election system with voters waiting long hours and broken scanners. Many New Yorkers were forced to give up and go home without casting their votes.
We know what has to happen, because we have spent years fighting for it. In addition to an investigation of the New York City Board of Elections, New York needs REAL VOTING REFORM. In January, the New York State legislature has the opportunity to make Voting Reform a priority: new Majority Leader of the State Senate, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, will join Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Governor Andrew Cuomo as the leaders of our state government. And they have run out of excuses for not passing comprehensive Voting Reform.
It is time for them to keep their promises. And we’re going to make sure they do. Sign up here to make 3 phone calls on Tuesday, November 13 ‒ 1 week after Election Day. We’re calling Governor Cuomo, Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Speaker Heastie to demand Voting Reform in the first month of the legislative session, and an investigation of the Election Day meltdown at the NYC BOE.
We’ll provide the script. You provide the outrage.
Our fight to bring Voting Reform in 2019 starts NOW!
