Introduction
At Progressive HackNight, we explore the intersection of tech and social justice. The 2020 Census is on the minds of many, from the citizenship question to underfunding outreach to privacy concerns to reaching hard to count communities, our next hacknight will take a look at the unique technical challenges as well as long-standing political and social justice ones.
What do we want to happen?
We will discuss how crucial the Census is to the distribution of resources and redistricting, how community groups expect to reach hard to count populations, and how the availability of an online option for filling out the Census opens a pandora’s box of digital security concerns.
Speakers
We will be joined by Jonathan Chung, Civic Engagement Associate at MinKwon Center for Community Action; Greta Byrum, Co-Director of the Digital Equity Lab at the New School; and Monica Vargas-Huertas, Northeast Deputy Director of NALEO Education Fund.

Our bi-weekly hacknights, open source projects, and issue-based campaigns educate and empower advocates and tech workers to create progressive change.
