Free Film & Forum for New York Health Act

August 3 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Flyer for film screening and discussion of the New York Health Act

The film Now is the Time describes the failures of our current healthcare system, and the growing efforts to ensure a fair and just system for everyone. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and experts on the New York Health Act, the current proposed single payer healthcare legislation for the state of New York.

Under our current system your wealth is the greatest indicator of your health. The life expectancy of wealthy New Yorkers is 11 years longer than poorest. The New York Health Act would give all New Yorkers equal access to healthcare.

The New York Health Act:
1. Provides quality care for all New York residents, regardless of immigration status.
2 Covers all medically necessary care, including: primary, dental, vision, mental health, pharmaceuticals, LGBTQ+ health, and any benefit currently required by state insurance law, Medicare, or Medicaid.
3. Reduces the burden on the sick, the poor, and the middle class. 98% of New Yorkers would pay less than they are paying now and the largest savings go to working households earning less than $75,000.
4. Eliminates the need for private insurance, freeing NYers from confusing & limited networks, unaffordable premiums, deductibles, copays or coinsurance.
5. Healthcare would no longer be tied to employment or union contracts and no one would be dependent on their guardian’s or partner’s health insurance.

Every day, five New Yorkers die needlessly due to lack of health coverage. The NYHA would save thousands of lives a year!

Event & bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.
