Brooklyn Voters Alliance’s Cuomo Call Day!
January 4, 2019
This January, the new Majority Leader of the State Senate, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, will join Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Governor Andrew Cuomo as the leaders of our state government. As a consequence of the significant change in power that took place in November 2018, the New York State legislature has the opportunity and responsibility to make voting reform a priority.
In early January, Governor Cuomo will give his annual State of the State of Address in which he will reflect on New York’s accomplishments and provide his vision for the future. But as we all know, our vote is the root of all of the agenda items, budget negotiations, policy choices, comprises, and decisions that our elected officials will make this year. Therefore, our right to vote and have fair access to that right is fundamental and our state’s ever reluctance to respect our right can no longer stand.
So prior to his address, we are calling Governor Cuomo to demand that he prioritize a transformational voting reform agenda this year. Such an agenda that should be inclusive of reforms that expand the electorate, make it easier to vote, and re-enfranchise our citizens. Please sign up here to call Governor Cuomo on Friday, January 4, 2019 to let him know that it is time for our elected representatives to remember the people that they serve and their responsibility give us the government that we deserve.
Can’t Call? We also created graphics to share on social media! Throughout the day, we will be posting #CuomoQuotes from Governor Cuomo’s previous addresses. Join in and share our #CuomoQuotes on January 4th: LINK.
