Bay Ridge MLK Day March Against Racism, Poverty, and Militarism
January 15 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Acknowledging King’s premise that the three evils of POVERTY, RACISM, and MILITARISM fuel a vicious cycle of violence that must be brought to an end, Bay Ridge for Social Justice, Fight Back Bay Ridge, South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance, The Arab American Association of New York, and South Brooklyn DSA invite you to join us for a march on Martin Luther King Day, not only to honor King’s legacy, but to continue his and our struggle against those three evils.
This march will take place at the beginning of our s…econd year living under an administration whose goals are to divide us, impoverish us for the benefit of the 1%, and deny the human and civil rights of the most vulnerable among us.
We will march on January 15th to defend DACA and to amplify Dreamers’ demand for the passage of a clean dream act. We will march in defense of Muslims and Immigrants who have been targeted by bigoted physical violence and equally violent immigration policies. We will demand an end to deportations and to the Muslim ban. We will march to demand an end to racist police violence which primarily impacts Black communities. We will demand accountability for killer cops and an end to racist broken window policing that targets and criminalizes communities of color. We will demand an end to US militarism and the wars which have caused brutal destruction and instability and have done nothing to make the world a safer place.
As we move into the second year of the Trump era, we call for actions of resistance and solidarity, knowing that the the onslaught of attacks by the right and the 1% will only be overcome when we stand together and rise against them.
Join us Monday, January 15th at 12:30 PM at the Salam Arabic Lutheran Church for the start of a family-friendly mile-long march up 5th Avenue to the Beit El-Maqdis Islamic Center on 6th Avenue between 62nd and 63rd streets. We will finish the afternoon with a rally that will include speeches from activists, spoken word artists, and a chance for you to get to know your neighbors and strengthen a commitment to social justice.
