More than two dozen New Yorkers attended Changing the Conversation Together’s Mini-Training at the GoBK Level Up Your Activism Community Meeting on June 5th. The evening was a great success: of the 25+ who participated in the 90-minute lightning-round immersion in deep canvassing, many have already signed up for full training or requested information and training for their base groups.
“When I walked into my first Get Organized Brooklyn meeting two and a half years ago, I had never heard of deep canvassing,” said Lisa Mann, one of three veteran CTCcanvassers who ran the mini-training. “It was incredibly moving to be back at Beth Elohim introducing this powerful strategy to so many passionate, thoughtful, and engaged neighbors. The energy in the room was fantastic!”
Mann co-led with Amanda Aaron and Ian McDonald. CTC volunteer Steven Radwell supported their efforts, including the all-important evening snacks!
After an introduction and brief listening exercise, participants shared and workshopped their personal stories in small groups. They learned strategies for starting a conversation and handling difficult topics at the door. The group was extremely curious about the CTC script, bringing this work together at the door, and opportunities for full training and getting out in the field.
GoBK’s Ellen Bolotin shared, “My mom and I talked about it for the rest of the evening. Thank you all. It has definitely lit a fire to get to a full training this summer.”
CTC and the co-leaders of the event thank the GoBK Community Meeting Team, Beth Elohim, and our GoBK partner working groups and hosts INBK and WHARR. For more information on Changing the Conversation Together: www.ctctogether.org email@example.com
