Red2Blue

Working together to rebuild our country and our democracy, one election at a time.

Mission

Red2Blue came out of #GetOrganizedBK, a Democratic call to action from City Council Member Brad Lander following the 2016 election. Red2Blue is comprised of Brooklyn residents and their friends across the country committed to working together on a volunteer basis to rebuild our country and our democracy, one election at a time.

We care about … GETTING OUT THE VOTE

The single most important factor in every election is voter turnout. And research shows that voting is habit-forming: voting in one election increases the probability of voting in a future election by 10 percentage points. We help get out the vote for all of our candidates, both on the ground and with new technologies, like targeted texting.

We support … ENDING GERRYMANDERING

Gerrymandering is when districts are drawn to give one party an unfair advantage. This corrupt practice undermines democracy: races don’t matter and moderate voters are the most disenfranchised. It empowers partisan extremists who are unable to debate or compromise, and results in laws that the majority of voters don’t support. It’s time for gerrymandering to come to an end.

We believe … STATES MATTER

States are ground zero for change. Republicans now control 66 of the nation’s 99 state legislative chambers and have full control of the governorship and both legislative chambers in 25 states. This has led to gerrymandering and voter suppression laws that have marginalized the majority of Americans and hampered common-sense legislation. We focus on flipping state districts, building a pipeline of progressive candidates, and creating change from the ground up.

In 2017 we worked with 8 VA state campaigns and in 2018 we are focusing on PA. We offer a full suite of services including texting, phone banking, social media administration, post carding, canvassing, creative services and some fundraising among others. So far, in 2018, we’ve:

  • 60,000 texts sent by 70 volunteers
  • 2,425 postcards written by 48 volunteers at 11 parties and at home
  • 8 phone banks with 40 volunteers
  • 34 canvassing shifts in 4 trips to PA
  • 5 candidate websites developed or updated
  • 3 candidates supported on policy, messaging or digital strategy
  • Ongoing social media administration for 2 candidates for Congress
  • 25 PA House & Senate candidates researched by 15 volunteers
