Jess King Fundraiser with Water for Grassroots
September 11, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Will we see a blue wave this November, or just a ripple? The answer will come in congressional districts that have not elected a Democrat in a long, long time. We’ll have to flip some of these historically Republican districts, and we’ll have to do it in states beyond New York.
Pennsylvania candidate Jess King is the kind of candidate who can win on this terrain, and her campaign has the grassroots energy that is producing unexpected victories in 2018. You’re invited to meet Jess King at our home in Brooklyn, this Tuesday, September 11, from 8:00 to 9:30 pm, and see for yourself.
Jess grew up on the edge of farm fields in Leola, PA, graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and Eastern Mennonite University, and went on to head a non-profit working to expand employment through support for local small businesses. She’s now running for Congress on a platform of Medicare for all, a $15 minimum wage, action against gun violence, and welcoming immigrants & refugees. And she talks about her views in a direct and common-sense way that wins wide support.
She’s running against Rep.Lloyd Smucker, a key NRA ally who voted to repeal the ACA and is unpopular in the district. “I’m not voting for Smucker,” a Republican voter in Ephrata, PA, told a Jess King canvassing team, as a local newspaper reported. “I don’t like what he stands for and I don’t like his support of Trump. I’m voting for Jess King.”
Please join us at 202 Berkeley Place, this Tuesday from 8:00 until 9:30 or 10:00. We’re located between 7th and 8th Avenues in Brooklyn; closest subway stops are Grand Army Plaza on the 2/3 lines, or the 7th Avenue stop on the Q and B.
This is a fundraiser, so please bring your wallet or checkbook. But there’s no minimum donation; Jess is running a people-powered, small-dollar campaign, and any contribution is welcome. (If you can’t attend but would like to donate, you can do so here.)
